The portals are said to aid people on their journey to the Nuclear Throne, but no-one has ever returned from them. All the mutants truly believe the wormholes will take them there, but which hero will make it to the Nuclear Throne?

  • fish
  • Unlocked from the start.
Crystal icon1

  • Crystal has 10 max HP from the start.
  • Crystal can activate a stationary shield temporarily that can deflect or negate most damage types for a few seconds.
  • Throne Butt exchanges a lower duration shield for the ability to teleport to the cursor location after her shield disappears.
  • Unlocked from the start.
Eyes icon1

  • Eyes can see better in dark areas like Sewers, Crystal Caves, and Labs.
  • Eyes uses telekinesis, which slightly repels projectiles, as well as pulls enemies and weapons/pickups towards him.
  • Throne Butt increases the attract/deflect effectiveness.

  • Melting starts with only 2 HP, but gains more Rads.

  • Throne Butt makes its vines kill anything under 33% health.
  • Unlocked by reaching the Scrapyard.
Yv icon1

Y.V. (Yung Venuz)

  • Y.V. has an increased rate of fire, which also affects his special ability.
  • Y.V. can 'pop pop' his weapon, which allows him to shoot the same weapon twice at once for twice the reload speed.
  • Throne Butt allows him to shoot four projectiles at the same time, but with quadruple reload time.
  • Starts with a Golden Revolver.
Steroids icon1

  • Steroids starts with two revolvers.
  • Steroids dual-wields their weapons, allowing them to fire both at the same time. They are also always fully automatic.
  • Steroids is more inaccurate with his shots than any of the other characters, making Eagle Eyes an optimal Mutation.
  • Throne Butt causes them to regenerate ammo for one weapon by firing the other. This is more likely to occur when both weapons are being fired at once.
  • When unlocking a golden weapon for Steroids, they will have the golden weapon and one normal revolver equipped instead of two revolvers.
  • Unlocked by reaching the Labs.
Robot icon1

  • Chicken can throw her currently equipped weapon, which deals damage to a single target on contact. This damage scales based on her level.
  • With Throne Butt, thrown weapons can pierce through targets.
  • Starts with the Chicken Sword.
  • Unlocked by reaching the Jungle.
Rebel icon1

  • Rebel heals halfway to full health when she goes through a portal.
  • Rebel can use her HP to spawn allies that will follow her around and shoots at nearby enemies. They cost 1 HP if none are currently alive; otherwise, they cost 2 HP.
  • Throne Butt improves her bandit allies' rate of fire.
Horror icon1

  • Gets an additional Mutation choice when leveling up. This also applies to their Ultra Mutations.
  • Horror can shoot out a radiation beam using collected rads that widens based on time used as well as consuming more rads over time. The beam erases enemy projectiles and damages enemies, and used radiation can be retrieved from enemies/props after killing/destroying them.
  • Horror's radiation beam gets wider twice as fast with Throne Butt. Using the beam for extended periods of time now heals Horror (1 HP for every 1.5 seconds).
  • To unlock Horror, you have to skip a Radiation Canister, and in the next area, skip a Big Radiation Canister. Horror will spawn as a mindless enemy breaking out of a canister in the level after skipping the Big Radiation Canister. Defeating the Hostile Horror in battle unlocks it as a playable character.
Rogue icon2

  • Wanted by the I.D.P.D.; they will constantly spawn and attack throughout the course of the game.
  • Causes an explosion whenever she takes damage, which damages enemies and destroys projectiles.
  • Can fire off a line of five explosions via her Portal Strike ability, which can damage enemies as well as herself, and can also destroy walls. She starts the game with one strike, and can hold up to three uses max.
  • Radiation Canisters become Portal Strike ammunition, which looks like a blue canister.
  • Throne Butt strengthens the Portal Strike explosion.
  • Starts with the Rogue Rifle.

Hidden Characters

Character Description
Skelly Icon

  • Has only 4 HP, moves slower, and is less accurate than other characters.
  • Can fire off a shot that doesn't use ammo, but has a chance of dealing one point of damage to the player. The self-damage chance depends on the weapon's ammo consumption.
  • Throne Butt lowers the chance of taking damage with its special ability.
  • Cannot be played from the start.
  • If Melting dies while inside a Necromancer's resurrection circle, they will be revived as the Skeleton.
Frog Icon

  • Has to move constantly. Stops moving only when the special ability button is held.
  • Immune to toxins and will take no damage from toxic clouds.
  • Frog's ability has him stand in place for as long as the ability button is held. When released, Frog will emit a bunch of toxic clouds that damage enemies. The amount of toxic gas emitted depends on how long the ability button was held.
  • Throne Butt causes toxic gas to spread further and faster.
  • Starts with the Golden Frog Pistol.
  • If you damage the Mom boss at least once with a Golden Weapon and keep that weapon until she is killed, she will drop the Frog Pistol. Storing the Frog Pistol in a Proto Chest and finding it with a different character will turn the weapon into a Golden Frog Pistol. It will become that character's starting weapon if you take it through a portal. Playing the game with a character that has the Golden Frog Pistol set as its starting weapon will replace that character with the Frog.
Big Dog icon

Big Dog

  • Big Dog starts with 300HP, 255 bullet ammo, and 55 explosive ammo.
  • Cannot pick up and use weapons; pressing the fire button will instead cause Big Dog to spin around in place firing bullets in a circular pattern.
  • Is very slow and cannot fit through tight spaces without the use of his active ability.
  • Big Dog's ability fires three slow-moving explosive missiles that can be guided with the cursor. These missiles drop pickups when destroyed.
  • Throne Butt makes Big Dog's projectiles and missiles move faster.
  • Changes all music to the Scrapyard boss theme.
  • Unlocked by defeating Big Dog.
  • Was added as a playable character for April Fools 2015 and removed a week later in u67.
  • Every year is added for just April 1st, but only on the current open beta via Steam.
